2021: New songs with new hopes

2020 has been a tough year for everyone; with the covid-19 outbreak and various issues happening around the world. We’re all hoping for a better year in 2021 to leave our bad memories behind and move on with life.

Due to the pandemic, a lot of singers were forced to cancel their world tour and concert. On the bright side, 2020 gave birth to a number of wonderful songs and albums. Although it has only been six days into 2021, we’ve already got two awesome songs from Justin Bieber and Foo Fighters.

Anyone

Justin Bieber kick-started 2021 with a present for everyone. Anyone was written by Bieber, Michael Pollack and Raul Cubina while Andrew Watt, Jon Bellion and The Monsters & Strangerz work together as the producers. The music video, directed by Colin Tilley sees Bieber as a boxer and Zoey Deutch as his lover. The music and the video resonated in peace, portraying the never give up attitude in fighting and loving.

On the 30th of December 2020, he announced the date release of Anyone as well as the cover art and trailer of the song on Twitter. Bieber then premiered this song on his New Year Eve’s concert and released the music video on the first of January.

I can’t think of a better way to close out 2020 and kick-off 2021 than celebrating with my fans all over the world and share this new music with them

said Bieber during the release of the song

He also mentioned that music has help everyone through this year. In fact, for him personally, music has been a tool for healing and transformation. That’s the reason why he chose to release the song Anyone on the first day of 2021 as it brings hope and possibility.

Anyone is a soothing love song. The soft melody of the song as well as Bieber’s tendering voice soothes my heart. It feels like he sings from somewhere deep in his heart that brings out the love and honesty to the listeners. Overall, it is a song worth listening to while resting or studying.

No son of mine

The next song I would like to share is No son of mine by Foo Fighters. Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1994. The name of this group was taken from “Foo fighter”, a nickname made up by Allied aircraft pilots for UFOs and other aerial phenomena.

There are currently 6 members in the band. Dave Grohl is the lead vocal and guitarist; Nate Mendel plays the bass; Taylor Hawkins, the drummer, percussionist and backing vocal; Rami Jaffee as the pianist as well as Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett act as guitarist and backing vocals.

Different from other bands and singers, Foo Fighters chose not to have a live stream or online concert on New Year’s Eve. Instead, they provided a musical send-off to 2020 with the release of No Son Of Mine. The song was released on the 31st of December 2020, to end 2020 and welcome 2021. It is the second single from the new album “Medicine At Midnight” after the release of Shame Shame

Dave Grohl who acts as the front man of the band have also posted his handwritten statement in social media. He mentioned that originally they wished to release the album in conjunction of their 25th anniversary Van tour. Due to the outbreak of the pandemic, it was postponed.

Lyrically it is meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self-righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against…

Dave Grohl commenting on their song

No son of mine is a song that shows the return of the rocking band with the high-frequency guitar riff and pulsating drums. At the beginning of the song, only the electric guitar and bass are present. When it comes to the pre-chorus, the drums start to come in with the tougher voice of the vocalist, bringing a more stronger feeling.

Give a listen to these new songs. Fill your new year with love and strength!
