COMEDY: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)
Remember The Fault in Our Stars? Even better, did you like it? If so, you might be interested to watch Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
This movie is based on a novel by Jesse Andrew. It starts off by showing you a self narration about the life of a 17-year-old senior high school student, Greg, who becomes a part of every social group in his school in order to survive the so-called brutal high school life.
His life begins to change when his mother forces him to hang out with Rachel who is diagnosed with leukemia. Soon, Greg introduces his short film parodies “co-worker”, Earl, to Rachel. Although Greg is reluctant to show Rachel the short films, Earl shares the collection with her. With Greg’s quirky personality and their film parodies which Rachel finds entertaining, their friendship blossoms in an instance.
MELODRAMA: Be With You (2018)

Life is unpredictable, irrational and complicated.

Just when life couldn’t get worse for him, he receives a phone call from his sister, Wendy, about their father’s death. Coming back to your childhood home means confronting your history, including the frayed states of your relationship with the people you know. This movie will pull the strings of your heart with humor, heartache and redemption by showing you the harsh truths of life, family and love.
BASED ON TRUE STORIES: Breathe (2017)
I don’t want to just survive. I want to truly live.
Breathe (2017) is based on the inspiring true story of Robin Cavendish who was infected with polio shortly after his marriage to Diana. Left bed-ridden, he lost hope miserably to the point where he asked Diana to leave him as he was just a burden. However, Diana was determined and stayed loyal to Robin, which changed him to be determined to live and not let his sickness prevent him from truly living.
The story is truly inspiring as it explores what was once impossible to many. Breathe goes beyond a romance movie, it touches the core of living and not giving up no matter how dark your days are. For those who are longing for a movie that warms your heart and touches your soul, Breathe would be the perfect movie for you.
CLASSIC: The Great Gatsby (2013)
His smile was one of those rarest smiles that you may come across four or five times in life. It seemed to understand you and believe in you just as you would love to be understood and believed in.
Everyone knows The Great Gatsby is a classic, but it will always remain a one-of-a-kind classic no matter how many times you have watched the movie or read the book. The movie could move you deeply especially if it is your first time watching it. Personally, I was a better person one way or another after I finished watching it the first time.
It follows the story of Jay Gatsby, an extraordinary man who lavishly hosts parties every single night. No one bothers to understand why he does it, all they care about is enjoying it. From fireworks to acrobatic swimmers, his guests are over-spoiled with entertainment.
When a man named Nick Carraway moves into the house beside Gatsby’s mansion, he wonders who Gatsby is and how he looks like since no one ever personally meets him. Through certain circumstances, Carraway meets Gatsby and eventually becomes a close friend to him.
For those who has never read or watched The Great Gatsby, the story is more than what meets the eyes. It goes deeper as the story goes on, and you’ll be enwrapped with admiration and pity for Gatsby at the end. Conclusion is, there is a reason why F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby will always remain as a top classic, and the way for you to find the answer is to watch it yourself (or with your loved ones).
HORROR: Pee Mak (2013)
Pee Mak tells a tale that’ll make you cry, laugh and grip on to your blankets with it’s eerie suspense. It begins with Mak, who comes back home to his beloved wife and newborn son post-war. Everything seems pleasant, until his friends become suspicious from the rumours that his wife has already died.
The movie is brilliant for everyone who loves getting their nerves wrecked, yet enjoys a good laugh and getting panda eyes due to crying at the same time. It has all the good reasons why it appears at the top of the list in the horror category. It is a well balanced movie with elements of love, family, friendship as well as comedy.
For those adrenaline junkies, the movie might not be up to your hardcore standards of horror, but casual viewers would find it scary enough to grab onto their loved ones (be it your soulmate or your teddy bear). Last but not least, the plot twist would keep you guessing who is the delusional one. Mak, or his friends?
ACTION: Red (2010)
Old man, my ass.
RED. Rated Extremely Dangerous. Well, who would have thought a bunch of old people could kick those asses that cross their path, right? If you’re looking for an “action-filled” Valentine’s (pun intended) with guns blazing around, Red would be a non-mainstream action-comedy movie for you.
With the gang made up of Bruce Willis, Hellen Mirren, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman, the chemistry they share is nothing less than perfect. Imagine, ex-CIA operatives, along with MI6 and KGB agents teaming up. What could possibly go wrong? Old, but gold is the way to describe this bunch of oldies who are hunted down to be eliminated. But again, they’re RED for a reason.
Sit back, relax and enjoy (or cuddle, whichever suits you) to a non-stop entertaining action-comedy gem. It sure is an “explosive” and fun movie that will make you laugh constantly and enjoy throughout.
So there you go! The romantic movies selection of diverse genres! We hope you’ll enjoy watching the movies! 😉
